Tennis elbow brace

Tennis elbow brace

A tennis elbow brace is a band with a small pad in it. You fasten the brace with Velcro. The pad should press on the tendon insertion (the painful spot) on the elbow. A tennis elbow brace gives the tendons rest, promotes blood flow and thereby supports recovery.

A tennis elbow brace is used in the treatment of a tennis elbow, also called tennis elbow.

How a tennis elbow brace works

A brace for tennis elbow can provide a lot of relief during daily activities. Due to the pressure that the pad of the brace applies to the arm, the tendons get rest. At the same time, blood flow is stimulated.

Stimulation of blood flow mainly occurs when you move your hand and arm. That is why you should keep the brace on during your daily activities. Good blood flow promotes recovery. With a tennis elbow brace it may be possible to continue working and playing sports.

Using a tennis elbow brace

Place the pad of the brace exactly on the painful spot. This is the place where the tendon causes symptoms. Fasten the brace as tightly as possible by pulling the Velcro. The tighter the brace, the better it works. Make sure you do not get tingling in your hand and fingers due to a compressed arm. If this happens, just tighten the brace a little less.

Wear the tennis elbow brace during the day for daily activities, work and sport. Take it off at night. At night the brace has no function, because you mostly lie still and do not move your arms much.

Types of tennis elbow braces

There are many different types and sizes of tennis elbow braces. The expensive braces are not always better than the cheaper ones. The mechanism is the same for all of them. The price can depend on the quality of the material, durability, design and hygiene.

Comfort is most important. The brace often sits in the elbow crease. As a result, the brace sometimes feels uncomfortable, which makes people move it. If you move the brace then the effect is lost and you might as well not wear it. A narrower brace is often best. This causes the least hindrance when bending the elbow.
