Treatment options

Within physiotherapy there are many different treatment options available. They are all aimed at treating symptoms as effectively as possible.

Physiotherapists are broadly trained and during that training they have learned many different ways to treat conditions. Some physiotherapists have specialised further and have acquired extra knowledge and skills in this area.

Often, multiple treatment options are used alongside or through each other during a treatment. Think of a treatment in which taping is first applied before exercises are done. But several treatment options are also used within one treatment plan. For example, after an anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, attention is initially focused on regaining mobility with mobilisations. In a later stage, the emphasis increasingly shifts towards active exercise.

The physiotherapist discusses with the patient what the options are to promote recovery. Sometimes equipment is also used for this that not every physiotherapist/practice has available. Think of shockwave or myofeedback. This is something to take into account when choosing your physiotherapy practice.
